Established in 2008, Surreybrook is a licensed, nature-based school providing services for families with children 6 weeks and older ranging from infant care, to toddler programs, preschool and multi-age transitional kindergarten programs.
The Surreybrook School is fully licensed by the State of Connecticut, providing a program that is carefully designed in a developmentally appropriate environment which provides children with a balance of rhythm, structure, and freedom. Our early childhood curriculum encourages the development of critical thinking skills in an environment of kindness, tolerance, cooperation and acceptance.
When children relate what they learn to their own experience, through a program of meaningful imitation and creative play, they develop powers of concentration and interest and a life-long love of learning. These skills strengthen a child’s judgment and practical intelligence so vital to his ability to meet the intellectual demands of elementary school and beyond.
Drawing from Montessori, Reggio, Waldorf and personal educational philosophies, our nature-based program provides children with both structured learning as well as time to learn through their own self-initiated discovery.
Surreybrook School is a certified Nature Explore Classroom.
We offer programs for children 6 weeks and older ranging from infant care, to toddler programs, preschool, multi-age pre-k and multi-age transitional kindergarten programs with one of the area’s first Nature’s Classroom.
Kathy Consoli, owner, has taught preschool for over 25 years and is the mother of four wonderful daughters. She has an educational background in both early childhood and art education and is a former fellow of Yale University's Edward Zeigler Center for Child Development and Social Policy.
